AI Power is Here: Achieve Better Outcomes & Free up Staff

NAACOS-Logo

I have just returned from two inspirational days at the NAACOS Fall Conference in Washington, D.C. meeting great leaders and hearing many great success stories. A special thanks to Founding President and CEO, Clif Gaus, Sc.D. who is retiring after over a decade; ‘The Movement’ has achieved a lot and will undoubtedly continue to play a leading role in delivering better care and better value for patients, clinicians, and taxpayers.

Here are my key takeaways:

  1. New AI World Emerging

Dr Pearl (former CEO of Kaiser for 18 years) gave a passionate lecture encouraging leaders to embrace the use of AI as it will “revolutionize healthcare delivery, empower patients and reduce clinician burnout”.  The ongoing management of chronic conditions is the area Dr Pearl sees the biggest opportunity.

We agree, our AI Nurse Florence has proven to reduce hospital admissions by 74% for CHF patients, reduce A1c by 1-point while ensuring medication compliance, and reduce cancellation of colonoscopy procedures by 50% by helping prepare patients.

  1. Care Management: Critical, Challenging & Costly

Everyone agrees properly coordinated care is key to better outcomes and lower cost. But there are challenges: it is expensive (in its current form) and often multiple care coordinators are ‘fighting’ to deliver their aspect of care coordination to a patient. An extreme case was discussed where the patient has 19 care coordinators calling on them!

  1. Risk Stratification is Important

Risk stratification is important given the cost of care management. Key is to focus on high-risk patients (older and polychronic) and ‘impactable’ costs.  Good care coordination can dramatically reduce admissions of CHF or COPD patients but will have less impact for example on patients on dialysis (where more of the costs are fixed).

  1. Burnout is Becoming a Major Consideration

Staff shortages and burnout are now a given. How to react?  Dr Pearl, of course, believes that handing over routine care to AI will reduce burnout.  At the same time, several clinicians noted that the move to Value-Based Care and full capitation provides a framework that rewards working smarter – not harder – and once understood is more often than not fully embraced by clinicians. Many of the conference sessions were focused on ‘unburdening’ the clinician by serving up the right information at the right time and automating routine work.

  1. AI-Powered Care Management:  Better Outcomes & Free up Staff

The future is here. AI-supported solutions are delivering increased patient engagement and better outcomes.  By automating routine care management 24/7, these solutions free up staff to focus on what matters most thus reducing burnout.

Florence the AI Nurse is among the exciting solutions now providing scalable, best-practice routine care management.  Florence expands a clinical team’s capacity by automating routine care.  Proven to boost patient engagement and deliver better clinical outcomes, she gives your staff more time to focus on what matters most.
